With Chocomel Protein, FrieslandCampina is tapping into the growing demand for high-protein beverages. But how would a sugar-free chocolate milk with added protein be received in Denmark — a market already filled with strong competitors? To find out, FrieslandCampina partnered with Bamboo Brands to conduct a focused taste test, right where purchase decisions are made: the supermarket.
Blind-tested by real users
In March 2025, Bamboo Brands carried out an in-store taste test in several busy Danish supermarkets. A large group of active buyers of high-protein dairy drinks sampled multiple products blind — without seeing any brand names or packaging.
By focusing on the right target group and removing all branding, FrieslandCampina gained unfiltered insights into consumer taste preferences and purchase intent.
Chocomel emerged as the clear favorite
Chocomel Protein was chosen most often as the favorite and scored significantly higher on taste than competing variants. Purchase intent was also notably strong — many shoppers said they would seriously consider buying the product if available in stores.

The test confirmed that Chocomel stands out in flavor and fits the needs of Danish protein drink consumers. Thanks to Bamboo Brands’ approach, FrieslandCampina gained quick and reliable insights into the product’s potential in this market — based on real behavior, in a real supermarket.
